Infrastructure
:

FONATUR, a government organization for fomenting tourism in Mexico, has developed resorts including Cancun, Ixtapa, and Cabo San Lucas. Huatulco is FONATUR`s newest development and the government has invested heavily in the infrastructure. In addition to wide, paved, palm - lined streets , Huatulco has excellent sewage and electrical facilities. As Mexico’s premier eco-resort, the area has been voted to have the cleanest beaches in the country. This is due to the excellent water treatment facilities that recycle all sewage to be reused in the parks, boulevards and the golf course . None of Huatulco`s sewage water is pumped out to sea, which means that all nine bays have crystal clear water.

This tropical paradise is billed as “the best kept secret in Mexico”, but with recent additions to the infrastructure the secret will not be kept for much longer . Some of the newest infrastructure include:

  • A cruise ship pier that can accommodate up to two cruise ships at once with an expectation of over 100 cruise ships per year in 2005
  • A new marina built for yachts and pleasure boats
  • A new private aircraft terminal at the international airport
  • A super highway which will connect Huatulco to the state capital, Oaxaca City, cutting the drive time from 7 to 3 ½ hours.

These factors are already impacting property values as well as the volume of tourism to Huatulco.
